#OwnVoices as a Publishing Imperative

he shared much useful information and stayed on the topic. She helped me realize fully the advantage of own voices picture book authors. She shared much useful information and stayed on the topic. She helped me realize fully the advantage of own voices picture book authors. Agent Adriana Domínguez will discuss the importance of stories from people whose voices have long been suppressed, and that representation is not just about who appears in books, but from whose perspectives the stories are told. The session will cover what #ownvoices is (and isn't), what progress has been made to increase diversity in children's publishing, and the work that is yet to be done.

This workshop presentation contains a 60-minute video, a transcript and resource guide.

"Adriana's statistics in the mirror, window, looking glass chart helped me see my value as a black author. I realized my nonfiction stories were mainstream-based because that's what I read as a child. Now, I feel responsible and accountable for telling the story from my experience growing up as a black girl in America. I am greatly encouraged by what she shared and have a renewed list of story ideas to inspire and motivate kids." - Debra P.
